"Anakin Skywalker! What do you think the Jedi order/Obi-Wan/Ahsoka could have done differently to save him from turning?" for [personal profile] rootspiral

One of the reasons why I love Star Wars: The Clone Wars is because it shows no one thing contributed to Anakin’s Fall. But also Palpatine is a big contributing factor to Anakin’s Fall too.

Palpatine befriended Anakin at a young age and proceeded to nurture that relationship enough to win Anakin’s trust. Unfortunately, the Jedi was blind to this.

IMO the primary reason why Palpatine succeeded in turning Anakin wasn’t just
because of Padme’s so-called condition but because Palpatine removed Anakin’s support systems from him. Anakin was actually doing better, all things considered, when Ahsoka was around and then the whole Wrong Jedi arc happened and Ahsoka lost faith in the Order and herself and walked away. Anakin started to backslide, and it’s not a coincidence that when Anakin Fell Obi-Wan was offworld.

If the Wrong Jedi arc was prevented, I think Palpatine would have a harder time turning Anakin. Also, I think Ahsoka would notice something would be worrying Anakin and ask.

She already suspected/knew Padme and Anakin were in a relationship, I feel like Ahsoka would quietly convey this to Anakin and ask him if there’s a problem. Between Obi-Wan and Ahsoka, I think Anakin would likely confide in Ahsoka more.

Since Ahsoka is more straightforward about it, she would insist on Padme’s medical check-ups and assure Anakin that medical science lessened the mortality rate for pregnancies.

I think Anakin might be even voice how he’d want to leave the Order with Ahsoka (just as he hinted in the Wrong Jedi arc) and I feel like Ahsoka might feel apprehensive about it but ultimately support Anakin. She knows more than most how stifled Anakin feels within the Jedi.

Basically, I think Ahsoka really was a big part of Anakin’s support structure and when she left the Order, he became greatly unbalanced and Palpatine took advantage of that.

As the Doctor said in the season finale, Resolution (of the Dalek): Everywhere! epic drum snare

I think I’d start off with travel to an alien planet, something relaxing that requires NO running, and I’d really be into watching the Cosmic Fireworks!

I don’t think going to the past would be a priority so jetting off to the far future would be a lot more interesting; I want to see space colonies, and/or space ships!

And, while I’m in the TARDIS, I want to explore the TARDIS too! I want to see all the corridors, the swimming pool, the library and all the other stuff we aren’t able to see because of budget.

"Tell me something about Supergirl that makes you happy." for [personal profile] redbrunja

This might be outdated since I haven’t really been following Supergirl since it made the leap from CBS to CW. I have been following the crossovers though!

One of the things I really loved about Supergirl was the exploration of Kara’s trauma and anger, and there was something about Kara’s anger that really spoke to me. It’s one of the things I really missed when the show moved from CBS to CW.

I love the episode where she thought she had her home back only to realize it was only a dream. It was such a great moment in the show!

In CW!Supergirl, I really adored the episode where we got to see Kara and Alex’s teen years. And then the recent Elseworld crossover was amazing, I love the call back to Smallville and then I really loved how much of a Gotham expert Kara was.

She was all ‘oh, sweet summer child’ when Barry wondered if they were in the good part of town.

(of the Dalek)

Now that is what I’m talking about!

Also, I don’t care how BBC numbers this episode, for me this is the season finale for series 11. It’s written that way in a way that DW 11x10 never felt like.

Things in bullet points:

  • WAYNE YIP. I knew he wouldn’t let me down as a director! I loved the episodes he directed in Doctor Who but especially in Class: ‘Detained’ and ‘The Metaphysical Engine or What Quill Did’. Those episodes together with the Class season/series finale made me care for Class in a big way.

I think more than anything, this series proves to me that a good director is crucial to both the pacing and feel of a Doctor Who episodes. Jaime Childs, bless him, is more comfortable directing very intimate and cozy stories than in Big Event Cinematic stories. Unfortunately, his directorial vision set what Series 11 would look like, and a lot of the next few director followed his directorial cues.

Jaime Childs directing ‘It Takes You Away’ is right in his wheelhouse because it’s a small cast, in a very closed setting. It’s theater. Jaime Childs directing very big set pieces like ‘The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos’ on the other hand? Aside from some nice tableaux is really outside of his wheelhouse.

‘Resolution’ makes TBRaK feel tacked on and makes me wonder what the writing schedule/bts is behind the production of ‘Resolution’ and TBRaK. Read more... )

"Talk about Doctor/Companion relationships! Which are your favorite? What do you enjoy about them?" for [personal profile] wheatear

Hands down, my favorite Doctor-Companion relationship are between Ten and Donna, and Twelve and Bill with several flavors in between. And, in some ways I think it worked out this way especially since I’ve thought since series 9, that Ten and Twelve’s stories are in conversation with each other.

I really think Andra’ath Quill liked Twelve. Liked-like, romantic stylez, because in Class 1x01 the Doctor was acting like this:

And Quill was looking at the Doctor like this:

Thinking about it, it makes sense since she only knows the Doctor by reputation, a Figure of Legend, and a feared warrior; for a soldier like Andra’ath Quill that could factor in her attraction for the Doctor.

And then Twelve bursts her bubble, and tells Quill he won’t take her and Charlie away from Coal Hill.
She looks so sad.

The Doctor tells her one of the reasons why she has to stay was because of what she did, because she killed one of the students.

The whole sequence was hilarious especially with Twelve’s ‘who’re you trying to kid?’ expression and Quill's 'Oh. Yep. Got me.'

This is why I lowkey ship them. They have good chemistry!

Well. Isn’t this embarrassingly long overdue!

I think it’s all a matter of preference. I have fond memories of the original Christopher Reeve version of Superman. It’s hard not to be invested in your first superhero story.

Margot Kidder Lois Lane became my Forever Girl, which all awesome women characters have to follow.

I love how some properties have echoed and called back to the first movie, and even though watching now, through modern sensibilities, I found the first half of the movie a bit of a slog the movie will always hold a special place in my heart.

Smallville was hard going for me because it took so long for Lois Lane to appear! Chloe was the Lois analogue, and it was fun at first but an analogue can only do so much, and then Erica Durance’s Lois Lane appeared and it was like a breath of fresh air. She was exactly the Lois Lane I pictured! From then I began to watch regularly. Sure, I had my nitpicks and quibbles but Durance’s Lois Lane rose to the ranks to be one of my favorite Lois Lanes, and Smallville's version of the love story between Clark and Lois in Smallville is one of my top favorites!

For Batman, my favorite movie incarnation remains Michael Keaton’s Batman. The gothic elements worked for me because Tim Burton just leaned into it. 110% Goth. 110% Selina Kyle.

I think the only other Batman property that matched the Batdren Goth-ness is the TV Gotham

Next was Animated!Batman.

This and JLU!Batman was the Batman I grew-up with. I kind of don’t want to revisit in the off chance it won't live up to my childhood memories.

Also, Animated!Batman is who I measure all Batmans by.

As for Wonder Woman, I am ashamed to say before the movie I’ve never watched a standalone Wonder Woman movie and only saw Diana Prince from the animated!JLU, which was amazing

I tried the movie with Nathan Fillion and was so annoyed that I stopped watching.

And I was too young to watch the live action Wonder Woman, which is sad, I remember watching snippets of re-runs but it was so long ago I don’t know what I thought.

So the award goes to the recent Wonder Woman movie which I love with all my heart! And I’m not all that sad that they pushed the movie back, if it takes more to make a quality Wonder Woman movie, I am all for the delay!

This was an interesting one, I'm still mulling how I feel about it.

I think I'll list down my reactions in list form:

Is there any story arc you would want revisiting and clarifying? Or is it done and dead since the Peacekeeper Wars?“ for [tumblr.com profile] thymejot

I would love for Farscape to come back! I'd definitely want to see what the Moya crew are up to these days. I figure there would be some relative peace with the occasional shenanigans. I heard in the comics Aeryn somehow becomes a high ranking Peacekeeper officer again, and I want to know what that story is about!

I'd also want to know how D'argo's doing now and who he takes after, John or Aeryn or both? I'm also curious about the intergalactic politics post-Peacekeeper Wars.

But mostly I just want to see a 'where is our crew now' and follow them on a fun romp then leave them again knowing while things aren't perfect they are happy!

I’ve been looking forward to this episode, especially when I found out more about Joy Wilkinson. Her previous and most popular work to date were about historical women boxers.

That’s right, women pugilists! “The Sweet Science of Bruising.” Evil be to him that evil thinks )

grimorie: (Default)

I think for this season, historicals are where this season shine! And this is where Chibnall excels at-- hiring the right people for the right story.

You just watch me! )

I hope in series 12 we get Rachel Talalay and Chibnall hires Sallie Apprahanian again. So far Apprahanian’s directorial style I prefer the most. She makes the material breeze through and slow down as necessary.
